Diderot Yap, a photographer from Douala, Cameroon, found inspiration in nature while observing local flowers. During a photoshoot with his friend Martino, he placed vivid flowers over Martino's mouth, emphasizing the theme of expression. The artistic choice to obscure the mouth illustrates the deeper meaning behind his work. Now living in Amsterdam, Yap reflects on this photograph as a significant connection to his roots, showcasing how his creative process—choosing flowers and experimenting with setups—contributes to his artistic fulfillment and joy.
I was amazed by how beautiful they were, so I gently cut just a few, says Yap, a photographer and visual artist.
The mouth allows us to express what truly is, so covering it allowed me to attract attention to the flowers.
