Elephants are protected by law, and the country has 69 reserves created especially for the now endangered species. In 1950, for instance, there were about 50,000 Asian elephants, whereas today, there are only 3,500.
The government is taking conservation very seriously by observing levels of protective infrastructure and requirements for entry into wildlife reserves and sanctuary.
