During my trip, I stayed in Dubrovnik, Hvar, and Split and took multiple day trips to other cities along the Adriatic Coast, highlighting the beautiful scenery and vibrant culture of the region. However, the incredible views came with the recognition that my decision-making needed to be more strategic when planning my visit.
The Croatian Bureau of Statistics noted a significant surge in tourists arriving, a 21% increase compared to the previous year. This uptick reflects Croatia's rising popularity, especially since joining the Schengen Area, which has made travel far more seamless for those wanting to explore this beautiful destination.
Coastal cities like Dubrovnik present challenges with their hilly terrains and numerous stairs, which can transform simple journeys into strenuous efforts. Therefore, when planning accommodations, proximity to attractions and access points should be at the forefront of any traveler's considerations.
Despite having budgeted based on experiences in neighboring countries like Italy and Hungary, I found costs in Croatia, particularly since the adoption of the Euro, to consistently exceed the expectations I had set for daily expenses.
