The MTA announced that 435 additional R211 subway cars, including closed-end and open-gangway variations, will enhance NYC's transit system, increasing reliability and capacity.
Once fully rolled out, R211s will total 1,610 cars, making it a significant upgrade with the expectation of smoother rides for tens of thousands of daily riders.
The open-gangway trains will roll out on the G line by early 2025, providing commuters a chance to ride the latest subway technology.
Despite delays in the rollout of R211 cars, which officially began in 2023, the MTA plans to phase out older car models to improve service.
