'Huge achievement' as historic library reopens after 1.8m revamp
Briefly

Sarah Harrison, chair of the Highgate Library Management Group, said: "We wanted a formal launch because it's a huge achievement we want to celebrate." This highlights the community's commitment to preserving the library's legacy and its importance in the local culture.
Toby Faber, president of the Friends of Highgate Library, emphasized: "Camden has to be congratulated for finding the money to refurbish this library and to recognize that libraries are incredibly important both in a traditional way... but in a more modern way, for people to do courses or join classes." This underscores the growing multifaceted role of libraries.
Gary Watson, senior building services engineer at Camden Council, shared: "Because it's listed we've only been able to do what we've been able to do... This shows you can decarbonise a heritage building and keep all the features." This reflects the balance between heritage conservation and modern sustainability practices.
