Social psychologists have found that political affiliation is now the most significant factor determining us-them divisions, increasing disdain and hostility toward opposing viewpoints and contributing to family estrangements.
Our national survey results revealed a troubling trend: today, 1 in 2 adults is estranged from a close relative, highlighting the widespread impact of political division on personal relationships.
