The residents of Oliete in eastern Spain turned to their local olive trees, creating ‘ApadrinaUnOliva.org’ to attract digital nomads and revitalize their community.
By inviting people to adopt olive trees for €60 a year, Oliete generated €71,000 which helped transform a cow shed into a co-working space, creating 43 jobs.
Mark Rawdon, an Irish ship captain, shared, ‘Property and the cost of living is very reasonable here. We come here most of the year.’ The draw of a peaceful life.
The initiative to attract digital nomads not only brings life back to the village but also injects new ideas and diversity into the local economy.
