House B's renovation incorporates a translucent glass wall that serves as both a practical element—bringing natural light into the living spaces—and an aesthetic feature that enhances security and privacy from the street. This design respects the heritage of the original terrace while creating a modern living environment for a young family.
The strategy was to minimize the footprint of House B while maximizing functionality, which allowed for a concentrated budget to focus on higher detailing in a smaller area, ultimately resulting in a more refined, low-cost project.
To maintain harmony with the neighborhood and respect the heritage context, the extension of House B dips down over the living spaces and rises at the back, ensuring that it doesn’t overshadow the neighbors and creates an internal courtyard that remains bright throughout the day.
Rather than simply expanding the original structure, the design emphasizes multifunctional spaces where bedrooms and wet areas are thoughtfully distributed between the historic front of the house and the newly developed areas, providing both privacy and communal spaces for the family.
