The number of teens who admitted to using ChatGPT as a homework helper more than doubled last year, increasing from 13% in 2023 to 26% in 2024.
The most striking change is the increased usage among black and Hispanic teens, rising from 13% and 11% in 2023 to 31% in 2024, respectively.
While older teens are more likely to embrace ChatGPT for homework help, 73% of adolescents still refrain from using it for assignments.
Pengcheng Shi highlights that rather than attempting to prevent usage, the focus should shift to how to best utilize AI technology for academic purposes.
