Hearing set for Wednesday on whether sheriff can challenge a ballot measure intended to remove her
Briefly

San Mateo County attorneys argue Sheriff Christina Corpus cannot prevent an upcoming measure to remove her from office as ballots have already been dispatched. Corpus's lawyers requested a hearing to postpone the election, set for March 4, but attorneys for the county claim it's too late since overseas and military ballots are already in circulation. This legal dispute highlights issues related to election processes, with Corpus's team citing clerical errors for their late filing regarding court dates. The hearing on the matter is scheduled for January 29.
"It is too late to stop the process," wrote attorney Andrew Werbrock on behalf of the county. Werbrock points out the elections office has already sent out ballots to registered voters overseas and in the military.
"By filing this case at the eleventh hour, (Corpus) has slept on her rights... (Her attorneys) should have to explain how this tardy lawsuit makes sense in the first instance when the election is less than six weeks away."
