Havering commemorated Holocaust Memorial Day 2025 with a service in Romford, led by local officials including Deputy Mayor Sue Ospreay. They remembered the millions affected by genocide, highlighting this year's theme for a better future. The service emphasized the need for engagement against Holocaust denial, prejudice, and the importance of learning about past genocides. This year also marks significant anniversaries: the 80th of Auschwitz's liberation and the 30th of the Bosnian genocide. Ospreay's message focused on the responsibilities we share to prevent future atrocities.
Cllr Ospreay noted, 'The service provides the opportunity for Havering to reflect on those who lost their lives and those who survived the terrible events of the Holocaust and other atrocities.'
She added, 'Holocaust Memorial Day acts as a reminder to never forget these atrocities and that we all have a part to play to ensure a better future where persecution and division never prevail.'
