Guatemalan President Bernardo Arevalo announced a significant agreement with the United States, agreeing to accept deportees of various nationalities in a bid to enhance immigration cooperation. The announcement, made during Secretary of State Marco Rubio's trip, includes increasing deportation flights by 40%, allowing for more efficient returns at U.S. expense. This effort aims to address ongoing immigration challenges and comes alongside a similar agreement from El Salvador, highlighting the focus of Rubio's diplomatic efforts on immigration issues across Central America.
"We have agreed to increase by 40% the number of flights of deportees both of our nationality as well as deportees from other nationalities," Arevalo said.
"I'm just saying if we had a legal right to do it, I would do it in a heartbeat," Trump told reporters.
Rubio called it a very generous offer but said there were 'obviously legalities involved. We have a Constitution.'
