Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro condemned former President Trump's plan to take over the Gaza Strip, labeling it as disrespectful and unserious. Trump, alongside Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, suggested turning Gaza into a luxurious destination while proposing that Palestinian refugees be absorbed by Jordan and Egypt—a suggestion met with widespread criticism, even from Republicans. Shapiro argued that Trump's remarks were detrimental, complicating the situation further, especially with ongoing hostage situations. He advocated for a two-state solution and highlighted the importance of a fair approach to peace in the region.
I thought it was an unserious proposal; I thought it was a proposal that, if he actually carried it out the way he said he was, violates international law.
I think what Donald Trump did was make that harder; and again, I thought it was really unserious and unhelpful at this time.
