Google scraps diversity recruitment goals in wake of Trump's executive orders
Briefly

Google has decided to eliminate its previously set diversity hiring targets aimed at increasing representation among minority groups within the company. Initially established in the wake of the George Floyd protests, these goals included enhancing leadership by 30 percent from underrepresented backgrounds. Google’s latest communication indicates a pivot in strategy, reviewing existing DEI policies and aligning them with recent political directives. Employee resource groups for minorities will still exist, despite the withdrawal of specific hiring targets.
In 2020, we set aspirational hiring goals and focused on growing our offices outside California and New York to improve representation.
We'll continue to invest in states across the US, and in many countries globally, but in the future we will no longer have aspirational goals.
The review of DEI programmes reflects a shift in priorities and compliance with recent executive orders, aiming for more effective policies.
Despite the change in goals, employee resource groups for minorities within the company will continue.
