The MTA announced on Friday, Dec 13, that tap-and-go fare technology is now available for nearly all of the MTA's millions of transit riders, marking a significant advancement in fare payment options.
According to MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber, over 80% of full-fare customers have switched to OMNY, which he described as 'a major milestone' in the evolution of transit payments.
The new OMNY cards provide Reduced-Fare customers access to a contactless payment system, offering not only convenience but also financial benefits such as free transfers and additional free rides.
New York City Transit President Demetrius Crichlow emphasized that Reduced-Fare customers will benefit from 'the perks of seamless tapping,' enhancing their commuting experience.
