Germany's Padel boom is saving tennis clubs DW 12/13/2024
Briefly

"Padel has become a passion," says Marco Otto, who took up the new sport around two years ago. "It a fast, dynamic game." Padel is more about fun and community than competition.
"The biggest difference to other backstroke sports is that you don't have to invest so much to have fun," explains Jan Weitzel. "Padel is easier to learn than other sports, especially for children and young people whose frustration tolerance is not yet as high."
According to board member Moritz Blomer, the club in Niederwalgern only had the new courts built two years ago, having previously focused exclusively on tennis, which was no longer profitable.
Interest in traditional tennis gradually waned, causing clubs to experience dwindling membership numbers and an outdated membership structure, leading to the need for alternatives like padel.
