Germany's federal prosecutor has charged an Iraqi couple, alleged members of ISIS, with enslavement and war crimes for abusing two Yazidi girls they acquired in Iraq.
The couple, arrested in Bavaria, reportedly kept a 5-year-old Yazidi girl as a slave from late 2015 and a 12-year-old from October 2017, subjecting them to severe abuse.
Prosecutors claim the man raped the girls while the woman forced them to work and physically abused them, illustrating the brutal treatment of their captives.
The couple's actions are viewed as part of ISIS's broader objective to destroy the Yazidi religion, which has faced severe persecution since 2014.
