Mark O'Connell (38) was found critically injured in the Hollyhill area shortly after 4am on Sunday and later died at Cork University Hospital. Emergency services responded after reports of a disturbance between two individuals at a property in the Hollyville area. O'Connell was found outside bleeding from an apparent stab wound to the chest and was initially conscious before becoming unresponsive. A post mortem was completed and Gardaí are treating the death as a murder. Detectives suspect a knife or bladed weapon and are examining indications the blade may have broken. A man in his 50s was arrested, later released without charge, and a file will be prepared for the DPP. Gardaí conducted door-to-door inquiries and appealed for witnesses.
