Garda motorcyclist injured in Dublin crash as man killed in separate road incident in Mayo

Gardaí and emergency services responded to an incident on Churchtown Road Upper, Dundrum, where an on-duty Garda member was injured but is receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. The road has since reopened. Meanwhile, a separate motorcycle accident on Castlebar Road in Newport resulted in the death of a motorcyclist in his 50s. A man in his 60s was arrested in relation to that incident but later released. Gardaí are seeking witness information and footage from both incidents.
Shortly before 10am, gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the incident on Churchtown Road Upper, Dundrum. The on-duty Garda member was taken to Tallaght University Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries, a Garda spokesperson said.
In a separate incident, a man who had been injured when a car and a motorcycle crashed on the Castlebar Road in Newport, Co Mayo, on Sunday has died. The motorcyclist, a man aged in his 50s, was brought to Mayo University Hospital following the incident that occurred at approximately 4.50pm.
A man in his 60s who was later arrested in connection with the investigation has been subsequently released without charge pending further investigations. Gardaí are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward. Road users with camera footage who were in the area between 9.30am and 10am this morning are asked to make it available to investigating gardaí.
