Fox News Anchor Slams Trump-Defying Bishop For Victory Lap' After Inappropriate Sermon' On Mercy For Migrants, LGBTQ
Briefly

In a recent sermon, Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde urged President Trump to show compassion to migrants and the LGBTQ+ community. Her remarks prompted backlash from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum, who viewed the sermon as inappropriate for a unifying church service at the National Cathedral. Leavitt expressed that the comments "weaponized the pulpit," while MacCallum suggested attendees were surprised by Budde's tone. Following her sermon, Budde participated in several media discussions to address the criticism and explain her message of mercy.
It was supposed to be a unifying and bipartisan church service in the beautiful National Cathedral here in Washington, D.C., and I was there with President Trump. And everybody there was shocked and mortified by the disturbing comments from this bishop, who chose to weaponize the pulpit.
Bishop Budde made a lengthy plea for mercy for gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and Independent families, some who fear for their lives and for those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away.
