Four people were evacuated after a laundrette fire in Lewisham, believed to have started from an overheated tumble-dryer. The blaze impacted the building's ground floor.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson advised, 'These types of fires often involve textiles that become contaminated with oil...Make sure you check the manufacturer's cleaning recommendations of your textiles before washing.'
The spokesperson highlighted that, 'Sometimes when materials are cleaned and put in tumble dryers, the heat cannot escape, leading to a high enough temperature that allows it to smoulder and ignite.'
They also advised, 'If you are washing and then drying on a hot cycle, always use the cooling cycle on the tumble dryer to allow for heat dissipation.'
