Wayne Fairhurst, from Warrington, pleaded guilty to possessing 12.5kg of cannabis for sale, after accepting £10,000 to carry drugs from Los Angeles to Dublin.
Upon his arrival at Dublin Airport, Fairhurst was apprehended when customs detected anomalies in his suitcase, which contained 28 packages of cannabis worth €251,000.
In his defense, it was revealed that Fairhurst had a troubled childhood marked by poverty, domestic abuse, and unstable living conditions as he moved house 18 times.
The barrister emphasized Fairhurst's polite demeanor during police interviews, confirming he acted under duress and perceived himself as an expendable 'drugs mule'.
