Jose Hernandez, a NASA astronaut and son of immigrant farmworkers, shared his journey to space with students, emphasizing the importance of reading and perseverance.
"It’s not being afraid to pick up a book and not put that down until you finish it. Reading interesting things, things that interest you is what makes you read more," Hernandez emphasized during his visit.
Hernandez inspired students by sharing that he was turned down by NASA 11 times before achieving his dream and that his roots in reading started his journey.
With a donation of 6,500 new books for students, Principal Parra highlighted the significance of bilingual resources for their primarily Hispanic demographic.
