A Florida man, Shannon Depararra Atkins, was arrested for making online threats against President Trump based on a tip received by the FBI. He faces a charge of making written or electronic threats to kill or engage in acts of terrorism. During his arrest, initiated from a traffic stop, he was also found with cocaine, leading to drug-related charges. Though he lives near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, there is no evidence he planned to approach it. The Secret Service is evaluating potential federal charges.
The nature of the alleged online threats was not immediately released, but Atkins was charged with making threats to kill or conduct acts of terrorism.
Atkins was arrested after a traffic stop where police also found cocaine, leading to additional drug charges alongside the threat charges.
