Five young people who died in horror crash outside Dundalk named

"They are Chloe McGee (23) and Shay Duffy (21), both from Carrickmacross; Alan McCluskey (23) and Dillon Commins (23), both from Drumconrath, and Chloe Hipson (21), from Lanarkshire in Scotland. The five people were in a Volkswagen Golf involved in the collision near Dundalk on Saturday night. They are believed to have been on their way to Dundalk for a night-out, gardaí said."

""Family Liaison Officers have been appointed to each of the families to provide support and An Garda Síochána will keep the families updated as to the course of the ongoing investigation," he said. "I want to express my condolences and sympathies and the sympathies of every member of An Garda Síochána to the families of the 5 young adults who lost their lives yesterday evening in this Road Traffic Collision. "The scene here on the L3168, Gibstown, remains closed today and a technical and forensic examination is being carried out by An Garda Síochána"

"A sixth person who was in the car, also aged in his 20s, continues to receive medical treatment in hospital for non-life threatening injuries, gardai said. The crash, involving two vehicles, occurred in the townland of Gibstown, on the Ardee Road, on the outskirts of Dundalk town shortly after 9pm. A male and female in Toyota Land Cruiser are in hospital with non life threatening injuries."

A sixth passenger in the Golf, also in his 20s, is in hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A male and a female occupant of a Toyota Land Cruiser were treated in hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Family Liaison Officers have been appointed and An Garda Síochána is conducting a technical and forensic examination of the scene. The Taoiseach described being "numbed and shocked" by the tragedy.
