Eric Porterfield, Roblox's senior director of policy communications, sharply criticized The Bear Cave's report, stating that it contains "misleading, irresponsible and in many cases false accusations about Roblox to further the author's motives as a short seller." He emphasized that child endangerment is not a widespread issue on their platform, asserting that millions enjoy a safe experience daily.
The report by The Bear Cave documented 16 instances since 2020 of adults arrested or indicted for exploiting children on Roblox, one case involving a man who "groomed 150 children to engage in sexual activity" on the platform. This highlights a serious concern, though Roblox clarifies that these cases are a small fraction compared to their massive user base.
Porterfield explained that Roblox actively updates its safety practices to prevent abuse, mentioning the blocking of inappropriate content in chat. He noted that "condo games" depicting sexual scenarios are typically removed within minutes and are not easily accessible to average users, aiming to maintain a positive environment for their predominantly young audience.
