Reports indicate that Turkish media outlets announced the death of Fethullah Gulen, an exiled cleric blamed by the Turkish government for a failed coup in 2016.
Gulen, aged 83, had been receiving treatment for a long-term illness and was reported to have died in a hospital, confirming speculations of his declining health.
Despite being accused of orchestrating the coup, Gulen denied all allegations and had been living in self-exile in Pennsylvania since 1999.
The movement inspired by Gulen, which is not formally structured, consists of a global network with over four million members, designated as a terrorist organization by Ankara.
