At 6:58 p.m. on Oct. 8, FDNY personnel responded to 1074 Castleton Ave. to find heavy fire throughout the second and third floors, necessitating a defensive operation.
Eight firefighters and one civilian sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to area hospitals for treatment following the aggressive firefighting efforts.
The fire, which was fought by over a hundred thirty firefighters, was eventually placed under control at 9:31 p.m. after extensive firefighting operations.
The cause of the fire at the old church site is currently under investigation by the Fire Marshal, reflecting the need for thorough inquiries after such incidents.
