Famine spreading in war-torn Sudan, UN-backed report says
Briefly

The Famine Review Committee of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) published a report outlining famine in five areas, notably in Sudan's Zamzam displacement camp, due to the ongoing conflict.
Famine conditions were confirmed in Abu Shouk and al-Salam camps for displaced people, as well as in communities in the Nuba Mountains, indicating widespread food insecurity driven by war.
According to the IPC report, half of Sudan's population, approximately 24.6 million people, are facing acute food shortages, exacerbated by a war that has devastated society and humanitarian access.
The Sudanese government has suspended its participation in the IPC, labeling its reports as unreliable, which suggests a clash between the government and international hunger-monitoring efforts.
