Jakeba Dockery criticized Gov. Hochul's subway safety initiative for limited late-night police presence, noting it wouldn't have prevented her husband's murder that occurred prior to 9 p.m. She urged a more comprehensive approach for 24-hour safety.
Reflecting on the impact of her husband’s unsolved murder, Dockery expressed her heartbreak: "It is sad that my husband is among those 10 people, that's what breaks my heart even more,” highlighting the ongoing violence and its emotional toll.
As a response to her husband's tragic death, Dockery established a nonprofit, Richard's Way, to honor his legacy of helping children, while simultaneously grappling with the grief of losing him to subway violence.
Dockery's deep sadness is palpable as she recounted: "Everyone is walking around with this angry mood and it hasn't been good since my husband has been killed... It's gotten worse," pointing to a growing concern over subway safety.
