The official state funeral for former President Jimmy Carter will take place on Jan. 9 in Washington, D.C., with ceremonies starting on Jan. 4 honoring the 39th President.
Carter will be taken through his hometown of Plains, Georgia, on Jan. 4 for a motorcade that pauses at significant locations, including his boyhood home.
A National Day of Mourning has been declared by President Joe Biden for Jan. 9, ordering all federal executive departments and agencies to close in respect for Carter.
The former President will lie in repose at the Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta, allowing the public to pay their respects until the morning of Jan. 7.
