Universal Music Group (UMG) has filed a lawsuit against French music firm Believe for allegedly distributing pirated songs under cleverly misspelled names of famous artists.
The lawsuit claims Believe is aware that its operations are supported by rampant piracy, and that its client list is filled with fraudulent artists and labels.
UMG alleges that Believe has enjoyed significant growth and profit by serving as a distribution hub for infringing copies of popular recordings on various streaming platforms.
Despite being a publicly traded company with significant revenue, Believe's practices in the digital music ecosystem have raised serious concerns regarding copyright infringement.
