In his debut album Hydro, Toby Castle-Smith of RIP SILO uses water as a vivid metaphor for the human experience. Eschewing traditional symbols like purification, he opens with striking images of collapsing ice. The album, produced in collaboration with Jeroen van den Dungen, features a range of influences, from ambient to trap to '80s and '90s pop/R&B. Drawing from his personal journey and experiences in Amsterdam, Hydro represents a synthesis of European synthpop with modern elements, illustrating water's powerful role in both nature and humanity.
Castle-Smith's debut album Hydro explores the metaphor of water's transformative nature, linking it to the tumultuous human experience through diverse and innovative synthpop sounds.
