Deutsche Bahn moves step closer to high-speed Germany to London rail link
"Deutsche Bahn and Eurostar have taking the next step towards creating a direct high-speed connection between cities in German and London. This week Deutsche Bahn (DB), announced that, along with international railway company Eurostar, it's moving towards establishing a direct high-speed railway connection that is planned to link major German cities directly to the English capital. DB and Eurostar have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in which the companies agreed to explore options for a joint long-distance service between London and major German cities such as Cologne and Frankfurt."
"According to a DB press release, Eurostar will be responsible for logistics through the tunnel under the English Channel, while DB will work on connecting the route to Germany and implementing it into timetables there. The new direct connection would make use of Eurostar's planned new double-decker Celestia trains. However, before a specific launch date can be announced further technical, operational and legal requirements must be met."
Deutsche Bahn and Eurostar signed a memorandum of understanding to explore a joint long-distance high-speed rail service linking London with major German cities including Cologne and Frankfurt. The proposed connection targets the early 2030s and would be the first direct rail service between Germany and the United Kingdom, removing the current need to change trains in Brussels. Eurostar will manage logistics through the Channel Tunnel while Deutsche Bahn will integrate the route into German connections and timetables. The service would use Eurostar's planned Celestia double-decker trains. Further technical, operational and legal requirements must be resolved before a launch date can be set.
