The number of people who died in stampedes at two charity events in Nigeria has risen from 13 to 32, with President Bola Tinubu urging stricter safety measures.
Maazo Ezekiel of NEMA stated, "The stampedes show precautionary measures are not being taken before the distribution of these items," highlighting serious safety concerns.
Economic hardship has intensified in Nigeria, with inflation reaching 34.6% in November and over 30 million projected to be food insecure next year.
"Never before have there been so many people in Nigeria without food," said Chi Lael from the World Food Programme, reflecting the dire situation.
