D.C. condo at site of early helicopter test flights is on the market

The transformation of industrial properties in Washington, D.C. reflects a trend towards residential conversion, most notably the Helicopter Factory condominium in Columbia Heights. Originally a workshop for German inventor Emile Berliner, notable for pioneering helicopter tests, the building has been repurposed into 15 luxury units since its conversion in 2016. One unit, which boasts high ceilings and a rooftop, is currently listed for nearly $2 million. This shift in property use highlights not only architectural preservation but also the demand for upscale urban living spaces in a historically rich environment.
The District was never a manufacturing town, there's not a lot of former industrial space. Here, there was a great opportunity to transform the building.
In July of 1909, Berliner successfully flew an aircraft with that type of engine 'for the first time in America', the Youngstown Vindicator declared in a brief report.
