Daniel Khalife, the former soldier who escaped from HMP Wandsworth, pleaded guilty to the charge of escaping prison during his trial, denying all other charges against him.
Khalife expressed remorse over his actions, stating, "I accept that I left the prison and I didn't have any permission," indicating a desire to return to his military career.
He elaborated on his escape mechanics, revealing, "Five days before his escape, he attached a sling to the underside of the lorry made from kitchen trousers and carabiners," emphasizing the planning involved.
During the trial, Khalife acknowledged his motivations for escaping, stating, "I wanted to be kept in the HSU at HMP Belmarsh... because he believed he would be safer there," highlighting his concerns.
