A recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission revealed that the Disablement Association of Barking & Dagenham (DABD) has improved its rating from 'inadequate' to 'good'. This remarkable change signifies a significant enhancement in the quality of care and safety offered to its users, as confirmed by both the CQC and feedback from service users and their relatives.
CQC deputy director Jane Ray mentioned that the previous inspection highlighted "an unsafe culture" within the organization, pointing to issues such as staff shouting at individuals and rough handling during personal care. The improvements noted in the latest inspection suggest that DABD has addressed these serious concerns effectively.
The CQC noted that at the time of the recent inspection, only two people were utilizing the service with one receiving personal care. This limited sample still highlighted the improvements, leading to ratings of 'good' across all five key areas of inspection.
Feedback from relatives of service users indicated that the care provided by DABD was considered "very good", with many praising the kindness and compassion of staff. This sentiment reflects the charity's commitment to nurturing these qualities from the recruitment stage.
