Council backs sheriff ouster measure
Briefly

The Redwood City Council voted 6-0 to endorse Measure A, which would empower county supervisors to remove Sheriff Corpus. This decision stems from a report by retired Judge LaDoris Cordell, highlighting serious issues including misconduct and lack of transparency in Corpus' administration. Both sheriff's unions expressed no confidence in her leadership, prompting discussions on public safety implications. The council's urgent endorsement comes ahead of a March 4 ballot deadline, emphasizing the critical relationship between city services and the sheriff's office, particularly in law enforcement and community safety.
"Lies, secrecy, intimidation, retaliation, conflicts of interests and abuses of authority are the hallmarks of the Corpus administration," concluded Judge Cordell's report.
"After hearing the evidence... it's become very clear that there has been an incredible amount of misconduct," said Councilwoman Isabella Chu.
"We might not pay and rely on the sheriff's office for policing services, but we're absolutely dependent on them," stated Mayor Martinez Saballos.
Unions are campaigning against Corpus, asserting they have no confidence in her leadership, labeling her an 'absentee leader'.
