An investigation has been launched into the death of Lalji Vekaria, found unresponsive with a toxicology report indicating his death was due to prescription medication and alcohol.
Senior coroner Graeme Irvine stated that it was clear Mr. Vekaria's death was not natural, with the toxicology report prompting the need for an inquest to ensure public safety.
The coroner declared Mr. Vekaria's family as interested persons, granting them the right to scrutinize evidence and question witnesses, which underscores the inquest's public interest.
Amid questioning the circumstances surrounding his prescription, the coroner expressed the need for records showing whether Mr. Vekaria was ever considered at risk of overdose by his doctor.
