Consumer Reports warns that infant walkers, despite existing safety standards, cause thousands of injuries yearly, compelling a call for a federal ban.
"One thing that's really not well understood by the public in general is just how fast infants can travel in these walkers - multiple feet per second," Dr. James Dodington stated. He emphasized that the risks are numerous, as infants can sustain serious head and neck injuries or encounter hazards such as hot stoves or water bodies.
Despite manufacturers tightening safety protocols, thousands of children remain injured by infant walkers every year, underscoring the inadequacy of existing safety measures.
The AAP has argued that there are no benefits to using infant walkers, and they might even delay important motor and cognitive development in infants.
