Colombian President Gustavo Petro claimed he is facing a coup as he confronts an electoral investigation over alleged campaign financing breaches, accusing political enemies of manipulation.
In his social media speech, Petro stated, 'The jurisdiction of the President of the Republic of Colombia has been broken. Today, the first step of a coup against me as constitutional president has been taken.'
Petro accused the National Electoral Council of being captured by the opposition, claiming it seeks to undermine his integrity and has formulated unfounded charges against him.
Despite Petro's claims, opposition leaders assert that the CNE is acting within its constitutional rights to investigate potential financial misconduct, a standard procedure in Colombian politics.
