Political reporter Hans Nichols on CNN admitted that the media dropped the ball in covering Rep. Kay Granger’s absence due to dementia, citing limited resources and time.
Nichols emphasized that stronger local news in Texas might have uncovered Granger's situation sooner, acknowledging a collective responsibility among reporters to adequately inform the public.
Granger herself stated that since early September her health challenges have progressed, complicating her ability to travel to Washington while her staff continued to deliver services.
Despite the challenges, Nichols insisted that uncovering such stories requires real investigative effort, which, although difficult, is certainly achievable with dedicated reporting.
