Coca-Cola recalls drinks over safety concerns
Briefly

Coca-Cola has initiated a recall of certain drinks in Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands due to heightened levels of chlorate, a chemical potentially harmful in significant amounts. The recall specifically affects brands such as Coke, Fanta, Sprite, Tropico, and Minute Maid. Although only a limited number of imported cans were sold in Britain, the company assured consumers that the related health risks remain very low. Authorities are investigating, and independent analysis suggests no serious complaints from consumers have been reported thus far.
Exposure to high levels of chlorate can cause health problems including thyroid problems, especially among children and infants. We need to question whether or not we want to digest chemicals in soft drinks which are used in the production of fireworks and disinfectants, however small the quantity.
Independent expert analysis concludes that any associated risk for consumers is very low. Coca-Cola stated that it had not received any consumer complaints in Great Britain.
