The Hearst Corporation is set to revive a condo tower project at 110 Fifth Street, previously stalled. This project is part of the 5M development, which includes a 400-unit condo tower, an office tower, and an apartment building. Hearst is relocating the entire newspaper staff from the Chronicle to a new location at 450 Sansome Street this summer, while the historic Chronicle building will be preserved during construction. Demolition of the existing site is necessary, and the bridge connecting the two buildings will be removed, requiring temporary staff relocation.
The 100-year-old Chronicle building will remain untouched during the construction of a new 400-unit condo tower behind it, but the connecting bridge will be demolished.
