Chanel Ayan Thought Her Fellow Traitors Castmates Were Just Going Through It
Briefly

In a revealing interview on the Gabbing with Gib podcast, Real Housewives of Dubai star Chanel Ayan expressed confusion over the contestants on Traitors. She highlighted her lack of awareness about the other participants and their proclaimed struggles, viewing their challenges superficially compared to her own traumatic experiences, such as surviving female genital mutilation and various diseases. Ayan critiques the trend of 'trauma dumping' in competitions, indicating a disconnect between her understanding and that of the other contestants, illustrating the varied interpretations of resilience and survival in reality television.
I didn't know the other people. Because the other people were like, 'I'm a survivor, I'm a survivor...' I personally thought they had survived things like me: female genital mutilation, I've survived malaria, survived typhoid, ebola, like drought, like everything!
So I was like, 'What have you guys survived?' and then [Jeremy] is like, 'I lost 40 lbs.' And I was like, 'Huh?'
People love to trauma dump in competition shows to explain why they need the money, so who's to say that's not what people were doing in the castle.
I still didn't understand them. I left and died, and that's when I realized there's a TV show called Survivor.
