Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is currently in stable condition in intensive care after undergoing surgery to drain a bleed on his brain.
Lula underwent an MRI scan that detected an intracranial haemorrhage, leading to his transfer to São Paulo for surgery.
The injury is linked to an accident Lula had in October, when he fell at home, suffering a small brain haemorrhage and trauma.
His doctor mentioned that the president's fall caused "great" trauma to the back of his head and necessitated stitches, advising against long-haul travel.
