Blackout risk warning as scorching temperatures forecast for parts of NSW
Briefly

The Australian Energy Market Operator has issued multiple lack of reserve alerts for NSW and Queensland as heatwave conditions coincide with outages at coal-fired power stations.
The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts temperatures in western Sydney approaching 40C, leading to extreme demand for electricity while coal power capacity is significantly reduced.
Around 6 gigawatts of coal-fired power stations are currently unavailable for various reasons, exacerbating the energy supply issues during this critical heat event.
If market responses are insufficient, Aemo will implement measures to ensure electricity supply during projected high-demand periods next week.
