Diller expressed that Musk's endorsement of Trump stems from a sense of bitterness towards the Democrats, saying, 'Why he has gone this way, I think, is out of some weird bitterness and rejection by the current administration.' He believes Musk's actions are, in part, a reaction to feeling spurned by political allies he once supported.
Regarding Musk's motivations, Diller suggested that they stem from 'a form of megalomania,' not from a desire for wealth: 'I do not think it is wealth that drives him... I think there is more to it, that is a little bit of a megalomania, almost a need to be recognized in a particular way.'
Diller noted the negative consequences of Musk's political stance on social media platform X, stating, 'He took over Twitter and alienated at least half the audience for no reason other than his own talking... What hurt Twitter was his anti-advertising policies and statements that hurt Twitter's economy.'
While admitting his admiration for Musk's intelligence, Diller also described him as having a 'capacious but often addled mind,' highlighting a dual perspective on Musk as both innovative yet politically misguided.
