The Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) Institute in Benin City is designed to fulfill a critical need for training in archaeology, conservation, and cultural heritage management. The campus will eventually include various facilities aimed at promoting local craftsmanship and heritage preservation.
'It's the core engine for the whole of the campus,' says Phillip Ihenacho, highlighting that the new institute marks a significant commitment to building the future of archaeological training and museum practices in the region.
With a budget of $100m, MOWAA has so far secured about $20m from various sponsors, showing a promising start towards creating a vibrant cultural hub focused on education and conservation efforts.
Ihenacho noted, 'We are not trying to raise it all in one go. We’ll address each piece individually,' indicating a strategic approach towards funding the ambitious project.
